The Sport for Development (S4D) Gathering brings leaders and
innovators in the field of sport for development together each year to
exchange ideas, to advance the field and to focus our collective
efforts. Sport for development involves tapping into what sport
can do for a range of community priorities, such as community building,
health promotion, Aboriginal youth engagement, economic revitalization,
newcomer settlement, citizen participation and conflict resolution.
While most sport for development happens at a local level
around specific needs or opportunities, there is growing attention by
policy-makers and social investors in how sport for development increasingly
resembles a trans-local movement, not just beyond our borders but also
across Canadian communities. For information about past gatherings,

and build skills through a variety of workshops and panels. Potential
topics include: youth engagement, developmental evaluation, governance
and cloud technology. The day will conclude with a networking event,
activity challenge and bonfire along the river.
Day 2 will
focus on demonstrating how S4D can fulfill governmental policy
objectives, particularly in light of the “sport for society” perspective
built into the new Canadian Sport Policy 2.0. We will be exploring the
promise of S4D in many policy areas including health, justice,
immigration and labour market integration. Our key note speaker, BC MLA Gordon Hogg will be addressing the topic of social finance.
